One of my great friends is James Knox Ewart of Columbia, SC. He is one of the smartest, most accomplished people I have ever known. I happened to Google 'Ewart' and found this site. His dad was a colonel in the military. JK is a Georgia Tech graduate and has done extremely well. I am very proud to know one of the Ewarts! I am trying to trace the birthplace and parents of my gggfather, David Ewart, born about 1830 in either Northern Ireland or India (East India Company?). He married Nancy Evans of Lower Cumber in about 1853, and settled in Bellaghy, Londonderry, where my ggmother Elizabeth was born in 1854. (I am happy to post a pdf of the family tree from this David down - my own father was David Ewart Dalzell)

I've come accross this page a few times over the years,a nd am happy to see this development. I often find "Ewart" as s surname of Irishmen/Scotishmen. However, there are some like myself for whom the name is a given name. My understanding is that "Ewart"... Eh-Vart, is a very , very old German name that means warrior or wild boar.

Check out this link for more information on Ewart Newtown http://www.durham-pa.gov.uk/durhamcc /K2P.nsf/K2PDetail?readform&PRN=N2196 apparently the largest property was built as a hotel because they thought the railway line was going to pass that way, they even built a station too!
